Then I will show how to treat injuries with the bandages from Video 1 and I will introduce a new bandage - the cold water bandage, and the cold water technique for after a tough workout. I will also demonsrtate how to cool your horses hoofs out and keep the hoofs sound from vigorous workouts. |

Locating, Treating, and Preventing Injuries .jpg)
Keeping a horse sound is the key to success no mater what sport you are involved in. Everything from horseracing to calf roping demands good care. What I teach in all four of these videos will help you do that. We can't ask these horses to perform at 100% and not give them the care they need so they don't hurt afterwards. |

Cold Water Bandage |

This cold water technique is a great preventative to injury. Use this method before and after a workout. |
Linement |

Using a good linement like old faithful - Absorbine Jr - to rub your horse down after a good work is allways a smart thing to do. The vigorous rubdown to his knees, ankles, and tendons increases circulation, and heals any minor strains. |
Poulitice |

Using a very good poultice like - Antiphlogestine - to draw out edema, or in layman's terms, swelling will benefit your horse tremendously. I will demonstrate how to do this with the bandages from Video 1. |
Dmso-Furazone Sweat

If you find a new injury such as a cut on a horse's leg that has already swollen, use a dmso-furo-zone sweat on it to get the swelling out. After you get the swelling out, I recommend switching to the "how to treat and wrap an open wound" method below. Sweating filling or edema out with fura-zone and dmso is also very effective on wind puffs, filled ankles and swollen knees. |
Treating an open wound or cut |

Wrapping an open wound and applying Panalog is the fastest way to heal a cut or scratches (cracked heels) on a horse. The Panalog not only heals the cut ten times faster, but it keeps the proud flesh from growing. You have to purchase Panalog from your vet. Another favorite of mine, still today, is plain old Wonder Dust. Some times cuts are in an area you can't bandage, and Wonder Dust also keeps proud flesh from growing. Flys stay off Wonder Dust. |
Hoof Care |

I will demonstrate good hoof care in this video. I'll show you how to cool the hoofs after a work out by packing them with mud. I explain how to make a good mud to pack the hoofs using bentonite clay, epsom salts, and vinager. Then by using one of my favorite products Corona on the coronet band to absorb the shock from all the pounding the horse is doing down the racetrack or in the arena. If you first use these means of prevention you will enjoy the benefit of a sound horse. A horse will perform much better when they are not hurting! |
