I demonstrate the Rundown Bandage, the Running Bandage, the Rundown Patch, and the Cool Cast. |
Running Race Bandages is something you have to practise many times before you actually gallop or race your horse in them. You have to be so certain you have not run them too tight or too loose. You can really hurt a horse's leg by running a bad bandage. Please listen to every thing I say in this video to prevent injury to your horse.
The Cool Cast is the most effective treatment for a sprained or strained tendon or ligament on the market. That and Ice. You will eventually have to run one of these if you groom or train racehorses. I am sure that tendons are bowed or suspensory ligaments are blown in other extreme horse sports events as well. Keep one of these on hand. It will make the difference in whether you save your horse or not. Applying a cool cast immediatly after an injury keeps the tendon or ligament from swelling as much as they would without one. It is like taping an ankle on a basketball player after they have sprained it. They can walk with the tape. They can't without it.

Rundown Patch |

The Rundown Patch is white felt with sticky backing designed to protect the fetlock on a horse who is burning the back of the fetlock during a race. If you notice the hair on the back of the fetlock is burned a little you will need to apply these. Horses mostly rundown on their back ankles. Rarely do you see a horse rundown in front. If there is a sore starting you will need more than the felt rundown patch. You will need a Rundown Bandage. Western riders use sports boots for this problem. You can't race in those. They weigh too much. |
Running or Race Bandage |

This bandage offers support to your horse's tendons, ankles, and ligaments. You must run this bandage with extreme care. This is a tightly run bandage, and too tight can result in injury. This bandage is run with elastoplast or vetrap. Some people use elastic ace bandage too. I prefer Vetrap. |
Rundown Bandage |

The only difference between the Rundown Bandage and the above Running Bandage is the 3-M Patch on the back of the fetlock. This patch materiel is so tough, a horse who runs down through the vetrap will not rundown through the 3-M patch. It is made of a tough airplane material. |
Cool Cast

The Cool Cast Emoillient Bandage offers supportive, antilphlogistic care and treatment to help reduce inflamation, swelling and tenderness. Cool-Cast is effective after articular injections. It is also effective with the following problems: strained suspensory ligament damage, filled ankles or windpuffs and fractured sesamoids bone. Cool Cast will reduce inflamation that goes along with tendonitis, arthritis and periostitis. |
